Spike Lee featured speaker for the Student Programming Council’s Speaker Series

On February 26th, Spike Lee was the featured speaker for the Student Programming Council’s Speaker Series. The event was in collaboration with the Black Student Union and the National Pan-Hellenic Council to celebrate and honor Black History Month. Over 400 students came to listen to the lecture.

In his lecture, “An Evening with Spike Lee: America Through My Lens,” Lee discussed the history, current status and future of America as he sees it, touching on race relations, stereotypes in Hollywood, and social and political agendas. Spike Lee was able to give FIU students background on himself, his career as a filmmaker, and why understanding history is so important in today’s society – especially through film.
