Center for Leadership and Service: Dance Marathon 2014 Recap

On Saturday, April 5th, 2014 over 300 of Florida International University’s (FIU) students participated in Dance Marathon. Dance Marathon is a 17-hour student-run philanthropy with 100% of the funds benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals program at Miami Children’s Health Foundation.  The committee of the 17th annual Dance Marathon (DM) raised $72,000 to add to the $727, 514.80 the event has raised since its inception at FIU.  Students dedicate their weekend and dance for 17 hours for those who can’t. The event was held at FIU’s Recreation Center, at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.  Dance Marathon and the Center for Leadership & Service invite everyone to join the students and members of the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation staff in making a difference.
DJs, belly dancers, Zumba instructors, dance teams, and many others provided entertainment for all ages.  Bounce houses, games, a photo booth, and a nighttime “Lights Out” dance party were some of the entertainment highlights of the night. There were a number of spirit hours during the marathon dedicated to FIU alumni and staff.  In addition, morale captains taught the renowned Line Dance to all guests and registered dancers. Participants and visitors heard from the families who visited throughout the 17 hours to share their personal stories and the impact Dance Marathon has had on their lives. Dance Marathon and the Center for Leadership & Service thank all students and campus partners for supporting the event and making a difference.
