    Desk Assistant (DA)

    The Desk Assistant is a part-time, paraprofessional staff member of the Department of Housing and Residential Life at Florida International University. The Desk Assistant works closely with and is directly responsible to the immediate supervisor, the Assistant Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC) but works in collaboration with the Residence Life Coordinator and the Residence Life Staff in the particular area of placement. The Desk Assistant will enforce Housing & University policies, rules and regulations, serve as a receptionist for the front desk, provide information to desk patrons, and provide excellent customer service. As a Desk Assistant, you will be directly responsible for coordinating a Residential atmosphere conducive to student needs and interests.

    Typically, we hire for this position in the Spring for the following Fall Semester, and the end of the Fall Semester for Spring Semester.

    Housing Ambassador

    The Housing Ambassador is a part-time, paraprofessional staff member of the Department of Housing and Residential Life at Florida International University. The Housing Ambassadors, with the support of the Housing Office Staff, provide outstanding customer service to students, staff, parents and guests while enforcing Housing & University policies, rules and regulations.  Duties include greeting customers, answering phone call and e-mail inquiries, giving hall tours and working Housing marketing events.

    Typically, we hire for this position when openings occur.

    Mail Assistant (MA)

    The Mail Assistant is a part-time, undergraduate student, paraprofessional staff member of the Office of Residential Life. Mail Assistants duties include distribution of mail and packages in an orderly fashion, following the guidelines provided by supervisor. The Mail Assistant works closely with Residential Life staff. MAs work at the Housing Package Center (HPC) supervised by the Assistant Director of Conduct & Administration. MAs also work in University Apartments supervised by the Assistant Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC) and the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) of that area.

    Typically, we hire for this position in the Spring for the following Fall Semester, and the end of the Fall Semester for Spring Semester.

    Resident Assistant (RA)

    The Resident Assistant is a part-time position in the Department of Housing and Residential Life.  The RA lives and works with a community of approximately 30 to 75 students in an assigned housing area on the Modesto A. Madique Campus (MMC). The RA works closely with and is directly responsible to the immediate supervisor, the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC).  Most RA responsibilities occur during evening and weekend hours. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: on-call duty rotation, programming, community development, conflict mediation, policy enforcement, meetings, committees, and Fall/Spring/bi-weekly training sessions. 

    Typically, this position is hired for the Fall & Spring Semesters with an application deadline by the end of January and positions are offered in March. Spring only positions are typically advertised in late October and offered prior to the start of the Spring Semester.

    Tutors

    Residential Life tutors are undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate vast   knowledge and understanding of a variety of subjects ranging from math, sciences, business and writing. The tutors work evenings Sunday through Thursday between the hours of 5pm to 11pm at the Academic Resource Center in Lakeview South. The tutoring center is a free resource to all residential students.

    Typically, we hire for this position in the Spring for the following Fall Semester, and the end of the Fall Semester for Spring Semester.

  • Graduate Students

    Assistant Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC)

    The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator is a part-time, live‑in graduate student staff member for the Office of Residential Life. The ARLC lives and works in a residence hall with a population of approximately 400 to 600 students.  The ARLC is supervised by and shares responsibilities with the full-time Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) of a specific residential area.  Major functions will include: serving in the on-call duty rotation, co-supervision of RAs, tracking and attending hall programs, supervising a front desk, advising a hall council and/or a Residence Life Committee(s).  Preference is given to applicants who have served as a Resident Assistant as an undergraduate or held other live-in Housing and Residential Life positions.

    We hire for this position during the Spring Semester for the upcoming academic year.

    Office Assistant (OA)

    The Office Assistant is a part-time, graduate student, paraprofessional staff member of the Department of Housing and Residential Life at Florida International University. The Office Assistant will serve as a receptionist for the desk, serving as an information resource to callers, taking messages, and forwarding calls appropriately. The Office Assistant will manage programming budgets and will assist on a number of projects and tasks, including but not limited to; maintain inventories, assist with reports, distribution of advertisements, manage supplies and process paperwork. Office Assistants work Monday through Friday between the hours of 9am to 5pm. The Office Assistant works closely with and is directly responsible to the immediate supervisor, the Residence Life Coordinator.

    Typically, we hire for this position in the Spring/Summer for the upcoming academic year.

  • Professional Staff

    Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)

    The Residence Life Coordinator is a full-time live-in professional staff member who has earned a Master’s Degree. The RLC reports to the Associate Director of Residential Life and has administrative responsibility for residential area housing 400 - 600 residents. The RLC supervises an Assistant Residence Life Coordinator, 9 - 15 undergraduate Resident Assistants, part-time clerical staff and several student employees who support the RLC. The RLC is responsible for developing a caring community which includes counseling, advising and mentoring students. RLCs select, supervise, and evaluate staff; serve as a student conduct hearing officer; coordinate a 24-hour desk operation including mail services; and oversee hall programming. RLCs also play an integral role in the department’s Living-Learning Communities, chair committees, and serve on the on-call duty rotation to respond to crisis situations 24/7.

    We hire for this position during the Spring Semester for the upcoming academic year. Typically, we attend The Placement Exchange.
