Registering for Classes

The GI Bill will not pay for students to take the same class twice unless the first attempt is considered a failure by the university's catalog.

The GI Bill will not pay for zero credit classes, even if they are required.

The GI Bill will pay for the tuition of study abroad classes, but will not pay the fees of the study abroad classes.

Only register for classes for your current major as it is listed in the university’s database for the current semester. Charges for classes not degree applicable or those considered as excess credits will be the responsibility of the student, as well as any charges not covered by the VA.

Concurrent Enrollment

The GI Bill will allow you to attend more than one college at a time, as long as the classes at both institutions count towards your degree, and the school granting your degree accepts the classes at the second school as part of your degree requirements. If you would like to take classes at another institution to transfer back to FIU contact the FIU Veteran and Military Affairs Office.

Call to Active Duty

Cancellation Policy Under Title 10 Call Up

Under current University policy, if you are serving in the Reserve or National Guard unit and are involuntarily called to active military duty you may be able to withdraw from classes with a full refund of tuition. If you are a financial aid recipient, you will be subject to refund policies as provided for by the aid program sponsors.

If you are receiving financial aid, ask your instructors about giving you an incomplete grade for the coursework, as an alternative to canceling.
