Panthers Protecting Panthers: Housing & Residential Life

Housing and Residential Life is committed to providing a caring campus living experience for our residents that promotes healthy living. As a part of our efforts, Housing Facilities has taken the following necessary actions to establish enhanced cleaning practices in line with CDC recommendations:

  • All residents and staff are required to login and complete the Safety Screening Checklist & complete the Return to Campus Check-in on FIU's P3 App. Available in the app store.
  • If you don’t have access to the app on your phone, you can complete it at
  • Hand sanitizer stations are located at every entrance of every building and on every floor next to elevator buttons, so everyone can sanitize their hands as they exit and enter the building.
  • Plexiglass panels are placed at all reception desks and at all main points of interactions between students and staff.
  • Electrostatic foggers (sanitation) are used (3) times daily to disinfect all commons areas such as main lobby areas, entrances, door handles, offices, common area bathrooms, vending machines, elevators, trash rooms, laundry, and hallways.
  • High touch areas are wiped down to help reduce the potential for transmission such as main entrances, front desk countertops, bathrooms, light switches, elevator buttons, etc.
  • To encourage physical distancing and personal safety, the use of communal spaces in residence halls will be restricted or closed until deemed safe to reopen.
  • Elevators will have a limited capacity of no more than (4) passengers at a time.
  • Drinking fountains will be turned off. Water bottle filling stations and ice machines remain operable.
  • The entire check-in process will be virtual. After students complete their online check-in, their OneCard will give them access to their unit. Keys will be left on students’ room doors.
  • University Apartments will have a tent outside building A for students to pick up keys once they complete their online check-in.
  • Students are required to sign up for a date and time to move-in, this will help prevent large crowds from forming.
  • Students will sign up for a one-hour move-in time slot at -> Student Tools -> Student Housing -> MMC Housing -> Move-in Time Selection.   They will be able to select a date and time to arrive between August 13-23 from 9am to 7pm each day.
  • Carts will be available for check-out to assist residents. Carts will be sanitized between users.
  • Residents checking in will only be allowed 2 guests to assist them in moving in. Guests are not allowed to spend the night.
  • Residents and guests are required to wear face coverings at all times during move-in.

  • All on-campus residents who leave during the winter break or are new to on campus housing will be required to test prior to move in. All residents will be asked provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result that was taken within 7 days prior to check in. The test result will be required prior to check-in.
    • The test needs to be an RT-PCR test (This is not an antigen or rapid test). You can get this test through your health care provider or in many cities free by making an appointment. You can visit your state or local health department’s website to look for the latest local information on testing.
    • If you test positive, please let the FIU COVID-19 Response Team (CRT) know by calling 305-348-1919. You will need to remain home until you are cleared to come back to campus by the FIU COVID-19 Response Team (CRT).
    • Information on how spring move-in will work and where to submit test results will be shared via email in December.
  • Students who stay on campus during the semester break will be required to get an RT-PCR test during the week before spring classes start. You will receive more information on the process after you complete the required Semester Break Registration process. This test will be at no cost to you.
  • During the Spring 2021 semester, each week, on-campus residents will be randomly selected to participate in surveillance testing. There is no cost for this test. Staff will explain where you will go once you have been selected. Participation in surveillance testing will be required for on-campus housing residents for the Spring 2021 semester.

If a resident or their roommates suspect someone may have been exposed to COVID-19 at any time please immediately report it to the front desk staff. Professional Staff will be notified. Residents who may have been exposed will be placed in one of our quarantine buildings in University Apartments. All delivery personnel (i.e. food deliveries) are required to meet residents outside of their building.
