Transfer Students

We are very excited that you've chosen FIU to complete your undergraduate degree! Once you have received your acceptance letter and have paid your $200 tuition deposit, or have had it waived, your next step is to complete our Transfer Orientation program.

Transfer Orientation is designed to acquaint you with FIU resources that are critical to your success. You can expect to:

  • Learn about transfer policies and requirements
  • Familiarize yourself with campus programs and resources
  • Meet other new transfer students like yourself
  • Understand the classes you should be taking in your first semester
  • Get assistance with class registration

As an admitted transfer student, your orientation has two components that you can read about in the drop-downs below:

Transfer Student Orientation Process

  • Step 1 - Virtual Orientation

Once you've paid your $200 tuition deposit or have had it waived, you will first complete a Virtual Orientation that will be taken online. To access your Virtual Orientation, log into your account, click the Admissions tile and select the Virtual Orientation link on the left side of the screen. Here you will see more information and be connected to the portal. The cost of the Virtual Orientation is $35, which will be charged to your account upon completion (students in fully-online degree programs will not have this charge). This will be paid automatically unless you had your Tuition Deposit waived. All outstanding orientation fees must be paid in full prior to the start of your first semester of classes.

Please follow these suggestions to successfully complete your Virtual Orientation:

    • You will not be able to access your Virtual Orientation in your account until you've paid the $200 tuition deposit or have had it waived
    • Any pop-up blockers within your internet browser must be turned off in order to be transferred from your account to the Virtual Orientation
    • Make sure to let all videos play through on their own (if you try to skip ahead, it will not let you continue)
    • You can stop and restart where you left off at any time by going back to the link in your account
    • Once you complete the Virtual Orientation, you can always log back in to use the Real-Time Reminders and revisit your Topics of Interest

If you've followed the suggestions above, but are having technical difficulties, please send an e-mail with your name, Panther ID, a detailed description of the problem, and any relevant screen shots (if possible) to

  • Step 2 - Academic Advising

Once you've completed the Virtual Orientation, in order to have your hold removed and register for classes, you will need to meet with an Academic Advisor. Students in fully-online degree programs should make an appointment with your Academic Advisor via your Panther Success Network. All others will need to sign up for a Transfer Advising & Registration Day, which is an on campus half-day program designed for you to take care of business, get additional questions answered, meet with an advisor and register for your first semester of classes.

We offer Transfer Advising & Registration Days at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC), Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC) and FIU at I-75 in Miramar (I-75). Advising for most majors is specific to a campus, so you should know which degree program you're admitted to prior to signing up for your Advising & Registration Day if you intend to meet with an Academic Advisor at your session. You can see the available dates for your major by clicking here.

There is no additional student charge for Transfer Advising & Registration Day. Because there is no concurrent parent/family program, students are encouraged to attend on their own when possible. Should you choose to bring a guest, the fee will be $10 per person.
