First-Year Orientation

Dates for your Admission Term and Major will be available to you in the Orientation tile in your My.FIU account once you've completed your Virtual Orientation and they are open for sign up. You will see more information specific to your Admission Term in the drop-downs below.

Admission Terms (Click each for details)

  • Early Fall 2021 (Classes Start June 21)
    • You will choose between a session that's offered remotely (via Zoom) or on-campus at MMC or BBC depending on your preference, major, and availability.
    • On-Campus Sessions:
      • On-campus sessions are for students only (no family members/guests) due to capacity limitations.
      • Face coverings are encouraged and physical distancing will be required at all times.
      • A day-of symptom/exposure pre-screening checklist will be required for all attendees.
    • You will sign up for your preferred date/delivery method in My.FIU.edu. 
    • For the most class options, sign up for the earliest session available.

    Note: Registration for Orientation is first-come, first-served and sessions will close once they've reached their maximum capacity. On-Campus sessions have a very limited capacity and walk-ins will not be accepted.

  • Fall 2021 (Classes Start August 23)
    • You will choose between a session that's offered remotely (via Zoom) or on-campus at MMC or BBC depending on your preference, major, and availablility.
    • On-Campus Sessions:
      • On-campus sessions are for students only (no family members/guests) due to capacity limitations.
      • Face coverings are encouraged and physical distancing will be required at all times.

  • Spring 2022 (Classes Start January 10th)

    The format for your Orientation is still pending. Details and dates for your term will be available in My.FIU.edu by September 1, 2021. There will be multiple dates starting in November until the week before classes begin.

Orientation Sign-Up

Orientation sign-up, when open for your admission term and you've completed the Virtual Orientation, takes place by logging on to MY.FIU.EDU and following the activity guide in your Orientation tile. Note that you will be asked to add names and email addresses of any family members who you'd want to stay up to date with opportunities available to them. For details see Parent & Family Orientation.

Qualified individuals with a disability requesting an accommodation to attend this event must make the request no less than five (5) working days in advance by emailing orient@fiu.edu.

Pre-Orientation Check-List (Click each for details)

  • Resolve Holds
    Check your “Tasks” tile in My.FIU.edu for any of the holds below and resolve them before attending orientation or you will not be able to register for your classes.
    1. The Orientation Hold will be removed once you meet with an Academic Advisor at orientation.
    2. The most common hold is Immunizations.
      • If you have Immunization holds, review FIU’s immunization requirements, and submit all necessary documents/waivers to immune@fiu.edu as soon as possible. Processing time is 24-48 business hours.
      • If you need assistance with Immunization holds, contact Health Compliance via email at immune@fiu.edu, phone (305) 348-2688 or fax (305) 348-3336 from 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
      • Previous schools may not automatically transfer this information, so you must be proactive to ensure that these holds are removed.

    3. Another common hold is from Admissions for undetermined residency.
      • If you have an Admissions/Residency hold, additional details about requirements can be found on the OneStop website.
      • Using Web Upload through your FIU student portal is the preferred method to submit your initial residency documents. To do so:
        1. Follow instructions to Submit Forms Online
        2. Choose department: Admissions
        3. Choose form name: Residency Docs Florida (Initial)
        4. Upload your documents and save
      • For questions or additional assistance with residency, please email admresidency@fiu.edu.
  • Student ID (One Card)

    Upload your picture and government issued ID to the FIU One Card Office here: https://onecard.fiu.edu/submitphoto/ and make sure you follow all directions*. Uploading your picture is required to obtain your FIU One Card when you return to campus. Call 305-348-2273 or e-mail onecard@fiu.edu with any questions.

    *Note: This cannot be done until you've signed up for an Orientation Day or registered for your classes.

  • FIU Email Account
    • All fully-admitted students at FIU have access to their own personal FIU email account through PantherMail.
    • PantherMail is powered by Google and provides FIU student with many useful Google applications.
    • To log in to your PantherMail, visit panthermail.fiu.edu and type in your FIU username (the first part of your FIU email account, ex. rpanth065) nd password, which is the same as your MyFIU password.
  • Financial Aid
    1. Complete your 20/21 FAFSA (for Summer 21) and your 21/22 FAFSA (for Fall 21, Spring and Summer 22) at FAFSA.gov and include FIU School Code 009635
    2. Visit your My.FIU.edu to check your Tasks tile for any pending Financial Aid items.
    3. If you have been selected for verification, click on the Federal Verification Link; all verification documents must be submitted via ProVerify
    4. Your financial aid will not be processed until verification is completed.
    5. For questions or additional assistance with Financial Aid, call (305) 348-7272 or email OneStop@fiu.edu.
  • International Students (on F1/J1 Visas)
    1. You are required to have health insurance and will have an Insurance Hold on your account until proof is shown.
      • More information about health insurance requirements can be found on the Health Compliance website.
      • If you need assistance with an Insurance Hold, contact Health Compliance via email at insure@fiu.edu, phone (305) 348-2688 or fax (305) 348-3336 from 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
      • Processing time continues to be 24-48 business hours.

    2. Ensure that you’ve completed the Declaration Certification of Finances form so you are able to register for your classes. For assistance from International Admissions, email iadmiss@fiu.edu or contact them via WhatsApp at +1-786-702-0031.
    3. You are also required to attend an International Student Services Session conducted by the Office of International Student and Scholar Services.
      • It is important to note that this session is separate from First-Year Orientation.
      • You can find more details regarding this session on the ISSS website.
      • If you have more questions about this, email isss@fiu.edu or access the ISSS Virtual Office Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 12:00pm and 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
  • Apply for Housing

    On-campus housing fills up quickly, so get your application in early. Get the info you need by visiting the Housing & Residential Life website!

  • Orientation Payment
    All outstanding orientation charges must be paid in full prior to attending your scheduled session.
