Transfer Students

We are very excited that you've chosen FIU to complete your undergraduate degree! Once you have received your acceptance letter and have paid your $200 tuition deposit, or have had it waived, your next step is to complete our Transfer Orientation program.

Transfer Orientation is designed to acquaint you with FIU resources that are critical to your success. You can expect to:

  • Learn about university graduation requirements
  • Familiarize yourself with campus resources
  • Understand registration procedures
  • Get familiar with campus landmarks and buildings
  • Meet your fellow new students
  • Receive group academic advising
  • Register for classes

Please note: If you have chosen a fully-online degree program, get more information about your orientation process.

Transfer Student Orientation Process

  • Step 1 - Virtual Orientation (Click for Details)

Once you've paid your $200 tuition deposit or have had it waived, you will first complete a Virtual Orientation that will be taken online. To access your Virtual Orientation, log into your account, and scroll down to the Admissions section at the bottom of your Student Center. Click on the Virtual Orientation link, where you will see more information, and be connected to the portal. The cost of the Virtual Orientation is $35, which will be charged to your account upon completion. This will be paid automatically unless you had your Tuition Deposit waived. All outstanding orientation fees must be paid in full prior to the start of your first semester of classes.

Please follow these suggestions to successfully complete your Virtual Orientation:

    • You will not see the link to your Virtual Orientation in your account until you've paid the $200 tuition deposit or have had it waived
    • If you have been admitted to a fully-online degree program, click here for more information about your orientation process, as it is done through FIU Online, not this Virtual Orientation
    • Any pop-up blockers within your internet browser must be turned off in order to be transferred from your account to the Virtual Orientation
    • Make sure to let all videos play through on their own (if you try to skip ahead, it will not let you continue)
    • You can stop and restart where you left off at any time by going back to the link in your account
    • Once you complete the Virtual Orientation, you can always log back in to use the Real-Time Reminders and revisit your Topics of Interest

If you've followed the suggestions above, but are having technical difficulties, please send an e-mail with your name, Panther ID, a detailed description of the problem, and any relevant screen shots (if possible) to

  • Step 2 - Transfer Advising and Registration Day (Click for Details)

Once you've completed the Virtual Orientation, you will be able to sign up for one of our Transfer Advising & Registration Days. Advising & Registration Day is an on campus half-day program designed for you to take care of business, get additional questions answered, and meet with your academic advisor to ensure you're signing up for classes that will accomplish your goal of graduation. When you attend, you will also:

      • Have the Orientation Hold removed from your account
      • Get assistance with class registration
      • Take a campus tour
      • Meet other new transfer students like yourself

We offer Transfer Advising & Registration Days at both the Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC) and the Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC). Advising for most majors is specific to a campus, so you should know which degree program you're admitted to prior to signing up for your Advising & Registration Day if you intend to meet with an Academic Advisor at your session. You can see the available dates for your major by clicking here.

There is no additional student charge for Transfer Advising & Registration Day. Because there is no concurrent parent/family program, students are encouraged to attend on their own when possible. Should you choose to bring a guest, the fee will be $10 per person.
