Homecoming Schedule 2020

  • August 24

    Paint Your Pride
    Time: 7-9pm • Location: Zoom

    Paint your Pride is an opportunity for students to show their creativity by joining us in painting a picture with an FIU inspired design. Any student can join and have fun and it will be at no cost to the students. The painting session will be taking place on August 24th via Zoom. No prior painting skills are required, anyone can join. The canvases with the FIU inspired design will be given to each student participating prior to the day of the event. Everything will be included along with the canvas and there will be an instructor to help complete the painting. Registration information for the event is coming soon.

    Artist Reveal
    Time: 12pm • Location: Instagram

    Event where Homecoming council reveals who the artist of Panthermonium will be. One of Homecoming's most awaited events of the year since the concert is so large everyone wants to know who the artist will be. This year will be completely virtual where we will use our social media platforms to advertise the artist for the year and include interactive stories and feed posts.

    Spirit Decorating Competition

    Pave your path! Join in on the fun for this year’s Spirit Decorating Competition by transforming your workspaces into a sea of blue and gold! Home workspaces are accepted and encouraged.

    Food Drive
    Time: 2-6pm • Location: Between Blue and Gold Garage

    The 2020 homecoming food drive is a new event we have implemented this year to promote panther spirit by giving back to our own FIU community by collecting items for the FIU Food Pantry. During these two days, students will be able to donate as many items as they would like to the food pantry. Spirit teams will also be given an opportunity rack up points for their overall totals.

    Panthermonium Concert
    Room Opens at 7:15pm • Location: Looped App and Website

    One of Homecoming's biggest events with an attendance of around 4,000 students. Features artists such as Lil Yachty, 2Chainz, J. Cole, etc. This year our annual concert will be completely virtual using an online platform that will allow students to engage more with the artist and experience a different version of Panthermonium. Want to get the chance to the meet the artist? Participate in the different challenges offered on social media and different pick up events at FIU!

    Painting with the Panthers
    Distribution: 10am-12pm • Location: Between Blue and Gold Garage

    Painting with the Panthers - DIY Flag Event, is an event that consists of students actively participating in designing and creating their own flag in order to represent Panther Pride. Up to 150 students are able to participate. Students will be able to pick up their materials between Blue and Gold Garage, where distribution will be begin at 10AM. This event also serves as a competition for those who wish to participate in it. Winners will receive a giveaway bundle.

    Panthers Influencing Latin America and the Caribbean
    Time: 5-6pm • Location: Zoom

    Over the last decade, over 600 FIU student interns have launched their careers in our nation’s capital. On October 5th, we’ll kick off a year recognizing their overall IMPACT!

    In the greatest numbers yet, FIU alumni are serving in high-ranking roles within government, private sector corporations and major think tanks in Washington, D.C. In particular, policies that impact the Western Hemisphere are increasingly being shaped and influenced by some of our own in Congress, at the State Department, USAID, and the Interamerican Development Bank.

    Join us for a special Homecoming Week discussion to learn from some of these career trajectories and to discuss some of the issues of the day.

    Onyx
    Time: 5:30-7pm • Location: Zoom

    This will be a virtual networking event for current students, and FIU's Black alumni. At this event, Black alumni will share their stories and experiences and students will be given the opportunity to foster connections with alumni who have experience in their areas of interest.

    Taste at the Bay
    Time: All Day • Location: Multiple locations

    Taste at The Bay made its first appearance last year as the newest addition to the FIU BBC Homecoming event list. This year instead of having restaurants pack up and come to us, we’re going to be popping up at their kitchens! Restaurants include Billy’s Pub Too, King Jerk, KC Healthy Cooking, Sergio’s Cuban Café & Grill, Sweet Delight Cheesecakes, Taiwan Ice, That’s Mine Burgers, and The Squeeze Juice Bar. Come into these wonderful restaurants with your mask, FIU Gear or FIU ID, a positive attitude, and an empty stomach. Don’t miss the chance to get free samples (while supplies last) and great discounts!

    Roary's Birthday Celebration

    Roary’s Birthday is held every year to celebrate FIU’s beloved mascot. Although we can’t party with our favorite panther in person this year, we still want to celebrate by providing sweet treats for up to 200 MMC & BBC students! Students can sign up to pick up a free bundt cake from Nothing Bunt Cakes Miami-Kendall or Nothing Bundt Cakes Aventura on the day of the event!

    Panthers Got Talent
    Time: 7-9pm • Location: Gravel Lot next to PG5

    Panthers Got Talent is FIU's annual talent show in which students, alumni, faculty and staff alike come together to showcase their talents in a friendly competition among the community, The event will be streamed in person and online for those that are unable to attend. The in-person event will be in the form of a drive-in theater where the university community will be able to watch the performances from the comfort of their own car. Attendees without cars will be able to sit in an assigned section and are more than welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, or anything they would like to sit on. Attendees will be spaced out accordingly to ensure a safe environment.

    Roary's Amazing Race
    Time Slots: 12-3pm / 3-6pm / 6-9pm • Location: Starting at the WPAC

    "Roary's Amazing Race", is a scavenger hunt that will lead students all around campus to each location that will be listed. Participants will have to figure out the clues to get to each location mentioned by figuring out puzzles, word search, connect the dots, etc.  At each location, students will do an activity, either physical or mental, and get stamped to proceed onto the next destination. We will have 15-20 locations for students to get to know our 344 acres of campus. Students will have about 2 1/2 hours to complete the race.

    Roary's Amazing Virtual Race

    Roary’s Amazing Virtual Race is a chance for students who won’t be available on campus to be a part of Roary’s Amazing Race. Groups and individuals are welcomed to join and sign up. The race will run for an hour to an hour and thirty minutes. There will be fun challenges, trivia, and riddles to be completed while racing with the other teams from the comfort of your own home.

    CRAFT 2020
    Time: 5-6pm • Location: Zoom

    The team from CRAFT is coming to you virtually this year! CRAFT 2020 is featuring a four-part series starting with Loco por Ti Wines with a food pairing. Brand Ambassadors Tony Haber and Raul Castillo will talk about the history and flavors of the wines. This session will be moderated by our very own Chief of Police, Alexander Casas. Participants will receive two bottles of wine and food samples prior to the session.

    Homecoming Caravan
    Time: 12:30pm – 1:30pm • Location: Starting at lot 9

    The Homecoming Caravan will take place at our annual Homecoming Parade on Saturday, October 10 at 12:30pm. We invite students, faculty, alumni, employees, retirees and the community to deck out their cars in Panther pride and drive around campus to celebrate another successful Homecoming week. Cars that reflect the most Panther spirit will be entered into a social media competition. The winner will be announced in FIU’s Instagram account after the event. Make sure to register to participate in the Homecoming Caravan by Wednesday, October 7.


    The Roar Report

    The Roar Report is an event similar to popular talk shows that will feature both live and pre-recorded segments. The event is to remind the FIU community that there is unity in a world full of uncertainty. Some segments include new and thrilling adaptations of our famous traditions such as the faculty and court crowning’s, the Trail of the Torch, and the annual firework show with a twist. There will also be new and interactive events that include all members of the FIU community such as a DIY segment, cooking segment, and an exclusive interview with impacting alumni. This event is made to be engaging to all members of the FIU community from students to the president himself.
