Advanced Leadership Challenge

The FIU Advanced Leadership Challenge is a collaboration within the Division of Student Affairs to provide an opportunity for students to articulate how the involvements they are doing outside of the classroom help better prepare them for the workforce to employers. Students who successfully complete the program requirements can apply for the Leadership Medallion.

Tracking and Application Process

  1. To participate in the Advanced Leadership Challenge (ALC), please become a member of ALC PORTAL on Orgsync.
  2. The goal of the ALC is for you to articulate how the involvements you are doing outside the classroom help better prepare you for the workforce to employers by developing and reflecting on these competencies.
  3. Get involved!
    • The guides below can help you find involvements that help you develop the 8 different leadership competencies.
  4. Log your involvements on OrgSync and put "CLS Advanced Leadership Challenge (ALC)" as the organization.
  5. After you have logged you involvement, you need to officially record the involvement for the ALC on the ALC Leadership Medallion Application.
    • The ALC Leadership Medallion Application is located in the forms section in the ALC PORTAL.
    • The application requires you to record your involvement and write a 100 word reflection on how that involvement helped you to develop that competency for each of the 8 Student Leadership Competencies.
    • The ALC Leadership Medallion Application can be edited, changed, and saved… until you hit submit. You should not hit submit until you have fully completed the program and are in your semester of graduation.
    • Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted by a CLS Staff member during your semester of graduation.

To add your involvements for you co-curricular record:

  1. Click on My Profile
  2. Choose Involvement
  3. Click on the top right corner on the green tab named "Add involvement entry"
  4. Fill out the information required in the involvement entry
  5. Check the show on full involvement history on each of the involvement entry forms you complete
  6. Click the submit involvement entry tab and your entry will be recorded
  7. Please note that for every activity you list, OrgSync will send an automatic e-mail to the reference person you list on the involvement entry and they will need to confirm that you completed those service hours with their agency.
  8. Once you have submitted all the entries that you would like to have on your co-curricular record, click REPORTS button on the left on the involvement page to request your Co-Curricular Record. Please note that your application will not be processed until you complete this step.
  9. The final step will be to complete the application for the service medallion. Students should only complete the application if they are in their semester of graduation, otherwise the student will need to reapply in their actual semester of graduation.

  • Hospitality Specific ALC Guides

The Center for Leadership and Service has partnered with the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management to create a Hospitality specific Advanced Leadership Challenge. Students whom choose to participate in this version of the Advanced Leadership Challenge receive all the same benefits, but this track increases their marketability to Hospitality employers specifically. The purpose of the Advanced Leadership Challenge is to help students articulate how their out-of-the-classroom involvements better prepare them for the workforce. It does this by utilizing the 8 Student Leadership Competencies for a framework.

The sign-up, tracking, and leadership medallion application process are exactly the same for this track. The only difference between the two tracks is the log. The Hospitality specific log has Hospitality specific programs written in red. We STRONGLY recommend that you consider doing those involvements, though you are welcomed to participate in any program listed in order to complete the ALC and receive the Leadership Medallion.
