Community Service Opportunities

  • FIU Day of Service

The FIU Day of Service is your opportunity to get up, get out, and do something! FIU Day of Service is hosted on Make a Difference Day on the fourth Saturday in October every year. Make a Difference Day was founded in 1992 when USA Weekend – the second largest national newspaper at that time – suggested to its readers that since 1992 was a leap year people should take the extra day and use it to do something good for their communities or for those in need. The idea caught on like wildfire and has been celebrated each year ever since. Join your Panther family and millions of people across the United States as we volunteer and perform projects for our community, for individuals in need and for charitable organizations. The 2020 FIU Day of Service will take place on Saturday, October 24th. More details to come!

  • MLK Day of Service

The MLK Day of Service became a National Day of Service in 1994 and has been known as a "Day On, Not a Day Off" ever since. Its purpose is to bring to life Dr. King's teachings by bringing the community together and celebrating his vision of freedom and a unified diverse community. Every year, FIU students, faculty, staff, and friends of the university come together to create solutions to social problems in the community.

  • Virtual Volunteering

The Center for Leadership and Service has organized a list of virtual and remote volunteering opportunities during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Feel free to utilize the information linked to find ways to give back to give back to our FIU family and our local South Florida community during this time. Please follow all safety procedures and guidelines related to any projects you participate in. If you have any questions or suggestions, reach out to us via cls@fiu.edu
