30th Annual MLK Commemorative Celebration
On January 14, 2021, Florida International University’s Office of Multicultural Programs and Services will host its 30th Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Commemorative Celebration—to honor one of the world’s greatest leaders.
Today, the MLK Commemorative Celebration, the university’s premier event, is a world-class community celebration attracting local dignitaries and students from various schools to pay homage to Dr. King’s life and legacy.
Over the past 30 years, FIU’s MLK Commemorative Celebration has evolved from a single event to a month-long series of festivities that include the Youth Forum & Peace Walk, Day of Service, Museum Exhibit, Dinner and representation at the MLK Day Parade held in Liberty City, Miami. This year due to the Covid-19 pandemic we have combined the MLK Breakfast, Youth Forum and Peace Walk into one amazing virtual MLK Commemorative Celebration. We will continue with our MLK Museum Exhibit, MLK Day of Service and MLK-BSU Student Event virtually. Also the MLK Day Parade has been moved to a pre recorded virtual experience by it's organizers.
This memorable annual commemoration is accomplished thanks to the support and collaboration of sponsors, donors, various departments and colleges at the university, as well as the dedicated MLK committee who begin planning for the event ten months in advance.
