Pride Center Scholarships

Various scholarships are available to qualifying students based on a multitude of factors, including identity affiliation, academic merit, and financial need. Below are some scholarship opportunities available through the OSJI office and through external organizations.

Out and Proud LGBTQIA+ Scholarship

The Out and Proud scholarship has been instituted thanks to the support of our FIU Alumn Lemar White, and the DC Proud Professionals Network. The purpose of the scholarship will be to honor, recognize,  and support commendable LGBTQIA+ students at FIU.  The Out and Proud scholarship is awarded annually to two eligible FIU students.

The selection committee considers multiple factors when assessing scholarship applicants, including academic performance, leadership skills, financial need, personal goals, and the applicant’s involvement in the LGBTQIA+ community at FIU.  Attention is also given to students who have lost the social support of their families and/or communities as a result of revealing their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Each person who applies is evaluated on the criteria listed below as well as the totality of their situation.  In order to apply for the scholarship the following criteria and expectations must be met:

Turner Scholarship

Turner Construction, a national construction management company with a local office in Miami, recruits more engineering students from FIU for internships and full-time positions than from any other local university. At Turner, employees are encouraged to support each other and the community through Employee Resource Groups. The Pride Alliance at Turner Construction wants to encourage diverse talent within the engineering field, so they teamed up with the Pride Center team to create a scholarship for LGBTQIA+ students studying engineering or construction management. This student will exemplify their company’s core values of teamwork, integrity and commitment.
