Unrecognized Groups

Florida International University requires all social fraternities and sororities to be affiliated with a local governing council under the umbrella of the Fraternity and Sorority Life | Campus Life and with a larger, nationally based organization who provides additional supervision and guidance. The Interfraternity Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, The National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Panhellenic Council, do not condone unauthorized expansion activities such as “campus crashing”, “ghost lines”, recruiting or soliciting membership, pre-initiation activities, pledging, educating and/or initiating FIU students without having approved recognition through the university. Our Greek Councils also recognize the risk such groups may pose. Our Greek Council chapters shall conduct any business/activities, official or otherwise, with any unrecognized fraternity or sorority including affiliate group, per our respective Constitutions and By-Laws.

An Unrecognized Group is a social Greek letter organization who made an independent decision without following the process and the approval of a recognized Greek Council under the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life| Campus Life. Unrecognized Groups are not members of the Fraternity & Sorority Community on campus and cannot participate in student organization activities that are affiliated with any, and all FIU campuses that require student organization recognition. This includes free room reservations, participation in Intermural Sports, and participation homecoming events, etc.
