Join SPC

The Student Programming Council hosts over 70 events for FIU students and the community throughout the academic year. SPC continues to grow in numbers and will continue to provide cultural, educational, recreational, and social programs aimed at building unity and pride among all students.

Officer Positions

  • President

    The SPC president is responsible for the overall leadership of the Student Programming Council, and serves as the spokesperson for SPC throughout the FIU community. This person serves as the primary contact and liaison for professional associations and coordinates the council’s attendance at conferences and conventions. When needed, the SPC president will serve as SPC’s representative on various university-wide committees, including Week of Welcome.

  • Vice President of Outreach

    The VP of outreach coordinates all outreach efforts for the council and its programs. This person oversees the development of the outreach calendar to ensure that publicity and promotions are done in a time efficient manner. They also oversee SPC’s involvement in other campus-wide programs, such as Homecoming, Dance Marathon, Relay for Life and many more.

  • Vice President of Programming

    The vice president of programming is responsible for the overall programming for SPC and manages the programming calendar. This person provides leadership in program development, selection, preparation, execution, and evaluation of events. The VP of programming serves as the primary contact and liaison for artists, agents, production companies, and other businesses with whom SPC works on an annual basis.

  • Treasurer

    The SPC treasurer monitors the overall finances of the council, and maintains all financial records. This individual advises the executive officers and directors in expenditure decisions and ensures that all allocations and expenditures follow the procedures outlined by the council. They provide a weekly budget report at executive board meetings and general meetings and serve as the main contact with the Activities and Service (A&S) Business Office. Each spring, the treasurer works with the advisor and other executive officers to prepare the budget request that is submitted to SGA.

  • Secretary

    The SPC secretary oversees the daily operations of the SPC office including key access, maintenance and computer issues. This individual develops and maintains officers office hour schedules, and ensures that the office is open during regular business hours. The secretary also maintains official SPC documents such as policies and procedures, and member and officer roster, all attendance records for SPC meetings, events and progress reports, and provides oversight of all relevant office supply budget categories. The secretary is also responsible for reserving and confirming meeting space for all official SPC meetings and recording minutes during executive board and General Meetings. This position is also responsible for keeping accurate records of events through a scrapbook or other record keeping device (flyers, Beacon articles, etc).

  • Director

    Directors serve as the main programmers for the council (comedy shows, speaker series, Pit events, events at the Engineering Center, etc.). Directors conduct research, negotiate contracts, submit necessary paperwork and provide general leadership for assigned programs. They also complete program approval request forms for assigned programs and ensure that all expenditures are in accordance with designated budgets. Directors are responsible for coordinating marketing and promotional efforts for assigned programs with marketing coordinator and other outreach personnel. For events, they must confirm any necessary room and AV reservations with appropriate offices, arrange for any purchases that need to be made for assigned programs and complete necessary financial paperwork. It is also their responsibility to submit a list of executive officers, directors and members in attendance at events to the secretary.

  • Marketing Coordinator

    The marketing coordinator works with the Campus Life publications department to choose, design and order all SPC giveaways and serves as a liaison between SPC and Campus Life publications staff. In order to market events, this person will establish and maintain working relationships with various on-campus organizations such as the Beacon and WRGP. This person will also develop a marketing plan for SPC events to ensure that advertisements are done in an effective and timely manner, as well as monitor and maintain the SPC website by providing updates to Campus Life publications staff.

  • Social Media Coordinator

    The social media coordinator oversees all social media outlets for promotion of events, surveys, and marketing (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram etc.). This person also shares the responsibility of taking photos at all events with the video coordinator.

  • Video Coordinator

    Oversees development of SPC video marketing tools, such as Word on the Street and maintains the SPC Youtube channel. This position shares responsibility of taking photos at all events with the social media coordinator and also creates the movie trivia that is played at all Friday Night Movies. This person is responsible for coordinating with the university and Graham Center to update TV videos and flyers.

  • Street Team Coordinator

    The person in this position oversees the SPC street team. The responsibilities include overseeing the dissemination of all promotional materials for SPC events, including flyers, posters, and banners. This person should be creative as they are responsible for developing marketing strategies.

General Membership

SPC General Members assist in program management and implementation of events. The General Members assist in sharing ideas for programs, as well as helping each event run smoothly by working crowd control and answering student questions, among other fun and exciting things.

Street Team Member

The SPC Street Team is a promotional and marketing group designed to help spread the word about SPC and events. The Street Team helps develop different marketing strategies and innovative ways to get the word out to students.
