Black Female Development Circle

BFDC is a non-profit organization geared to educate, explore, enhance, and celebrate womanhood. BFDC is not simply an organization for women of color. This organization is meant to meet you wherever you are in your life cycle and help you to know yourself in such a way that you are not only more self-aware, but you are better able to relate to others who may or may not be like you. While they have many wonderful and exciting external events to promote them and their mission, the main function of this organization is for its MEMBERS. Planned Parenthood

Through Voices of Planned Parenthood (VOX), college students across the country organize events on campus to raise public awareness about reproductive health and rights, and educate young people about sexual health. The FIU chapter of VOX works with and supports their local Planned Parenthood health centers, and mobilizes advocates of reproductive rights.  For more information and meeting schedule, please email

National Organization for Women

National Organization for Women is the largest organization of female empowerment in the United States . NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in the US , FIU has it’s own chapter! Since its founding in 1966, NOW’s goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women to end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society. For more information on joining NOW, please email, or check out our Facebook. 

Stonewall Pride Alliance

The Stonewall Pride Alliance is Florida International University’s student organization dedicated to fostering a safe environment conducive to learning and personal growth for all LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer, and questioning) students and allies (individuals who identify as heterosexual but support LGBTQ persons and initiatives). The Women’s Center at FIU supports LGBTQA programming, student organizations, and events, which are organized through Multicultural Programs and Services.

Women’s Studies Student Association

The Women’s Studies Student Association (WSSA) is devoted to understanding the diverse lives, issues, and voices of women in our multicultural and international world. We seek to use this knowledge to inform our critical practice in our lives, the university, and the broader community for the purpose of creating a more just and equitable society. Each year WSSA participates in numerous activities such as the celebration of activism, movie nights on campus, volunteering at events both on or off campus, and participate in food, clothes and toy drives throughout the year. United States National Committee (USNC) – United Nations (UN) Women

UN Women is empowered to:

  • To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms.
  • To help UN member states implement the above standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
  • To enable member states to hold the UN system accountable for its own commitments on gender equality, including regular monitoring of system-wide progress.
