VetSuccess on Campus

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ VetSuccess on Campus (VSOC) Program serves as the on-campus face for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Florida International Universities VSOC counselor, Marquay Smith, is an experienced Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Marquay has been a Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment counselor since 2013 and alumni of FIU. Marquay is available for consultation and support in order to assist student veterans, their family, and dependents using VA benefits with the following:

  • VA educational benefits,
  • Understanding and applying for Veteran Readiness and Employment Service (Chapter 31)
  • Vocational exploration and career counseling services (Chapter 36)
  • Information on college credit for military experience and training
  • Information on applying for other VA benefits to include disability compensation, life insurance, and home loan guaranty
  • Assistance with electing healthcare benefits through the Veterans Health Administration
  • Information and referrals to VA medical and mental health services
  • Referrals to the local Vet Center for readjustment counseling services
  • Referrals to on-campus, community, and VA resources to ensure academic success
  • Guidance and support while using VA educational benefits
  • Employment information and assistance
  • Student Veteran peer mentoring and tutoring services
  • VA Work Study

    The VA work-study allowance is available to personal training on a full-time or 3/4-time basis.

  • eBenefits

    eBenefits is a joint VA/DoD web portal that provides resources and self-service capabilities to Veterans, Servicemembers, and their families to research, access, and manage their VA and military benefits and personal information.

  • OEF/OIF/OND VETERANS

    Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND) Veterans four times a year.

  • My HealtheVET

    My HealtheVet is VA’s online personal health record. It was designed for veterans, active duty service members, their dependents, and caregivers. My HealtheVet helps you partner with your health care team. It provides you with opportunities and tools to make informed decisions and manage your health care.

  • VA Vet Center

    Vet Centers provide individual, group, and family counseling to all veterans who served in any combat zone. Services are also available for their family members.
