Online Workshops

CAPS clinicians offer a plethora of virtual, psycho-educational, drop-in workshop sessions focused on helping students thrive. These 60-minute workshops are described below. They are designed to assist with coping and provide concrete skills.

  • Managing Social Isolation and Anxiety in Crisis

    A workshop focused on providing psycho-education on coping with current transitions through radical acceptance, while still fostering meaningful social and emotional connection with others

  • #Adulting: Relationships Edition

    Relationships with parent(s), friends(), partner(s), coworker(s)… basically relationships with anyone in our lives can be quite complex. These two workshops will be focused on providing psycho-education for students interested in learning life-long skills to improve any relationships.

    • Building Healthy Relationships: This session focuses on learning skills for developing and maintaining healthy relationships with significant people in your life. Join us to explore relationships skills that are proven to be effective and relevant when developing meaningful and healthy relationships.
    • Managing Relationship Conflicts: Conflicts in relationships are common and are an important part as we get to know people and desire closeness. This session focuses on learning skills for managing conflicts in relationships. Join us June 8th at 11am to explore skills that are research-based and successful for addressing relationship conflicts.
  • Anxiety Toolbox

    A two-part workshop focused on utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy techniques to disentangle the experience of anxiety.

    • Calming the Body: we will take a broad look at physiological symptoms of anxiety and introduce methods for slowing down and putting our bodies in a relaxed state.
    • Calming the Mind: we will focus on increasing insight into the thought patterns that impact anxiety; increasing awareness and understanding are major tools in addressing anxiety.
  • Career
    • Exploring My Career Path: In this workshop you will explore how factors such as personality, interests, family, culture, values, and skills impacts your current and future career identity.
    • Setting Goals for My Career: In this workshop you will learn to apply goal setting techniques to make decisions about your career identity and journey.
  • Getting Unstuck
    Increase your understanding and knowledge about depression. The goal is to provide you with some skills to recognize and manage symptoms you may be experiencing.
  • Improve Reading Comprehension and Retention

    A Clinical Outreach Workshop for a group or groups of FIU students (clients and non-clients) run via Zoom and consisting of 2 sessions (45 minutes long) covering:

    1. Self-assessment regarding reading strategies and retention abilities
    2. Passive reading strategies vs. active reading strategies
    3. Reading speed & how to read faster
    4. Self-assessment Re-Test
    5. Tips how to use textbook correctly
    6. Strategies that help to remember content
    7. Tips on highlighting
    8. Self-assessment regarding textbook use

    This clinical outreach workshop is directed at the general student population, but it also may help students with reading disorders or ADHD

  • Improve Math Understanding and College Math Study Strategies

    A Virtual Clinical Outreach Workshop for a group or groups of FIU students (clients and non-clients) run via Zoom and consisting of 1 session (45 minutes long) covering:

    1. Depicting the correct mindset for college math
    2. Making College Math less difficult
    3. Strategies how to study during the Math Class
    4. Strategies to make Math Homework more effective
    5. Strategies how to study for the Math Exam
    6. Strategies how to tackle the Math Exam
    7. Strategies how to learn from mistakes on the Math Test


    This clinical outreach workshop is directed at the general student population, but it also may help students with ADHD or Math Testing Anxiety

  • How to Read a Scientific Paper

    A Clinical Outreach Workshop for a group or groups of FIU students (clients and non-clients) run via Zoom and consisting of 1 session (45 minutes long) covering:

    1. Strategies how to critically read a peer-reviewed primary research paper
    2. Strategies how to evaluate the results of a primary research paper

    This clinical outreach workshop is directed at the general student population, especially upper-class students thinking about enrolling in graduate school.

  • ADHD

    A series of workshops focused on providing psycho-education for students with ADHD or probable ADHD and those who would like to learn more about it!

    • Career Exploration: This session focuses on skill building: Improving skills and habits related to the work place. 
    • Learning to Work Well with Others: This session focuses on skill building: Improving Soft Skills related to the work place. 
    • Wrap-up: This session “wraps-up” the workshop series. It includes debriefing and the scheduling of one (virtual)coaching appointment.
