Testing

CAPS offers comprehensive psychoeducational, neuropsychological, ADHD and personality evaluations for students that were referred for testing due to academic difficulties. Objectives include assessing areas of cognitive strengths and weaknesses, ruling out the presence of learning disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders, and making relevant recommendations for educational accommodations.

De-stressing clinic - Balanced Minds

The "Balanced Minds" program is a stress management and personal wellness program being offered through CAPS. This service oriented program is targeting the FIU community to provide workshops and instruction on the use of the "emWave" biofeedback computer program. EmWave Desktop is a scientifically validated hardware/software system that teaches techniques to help create an optimal state in which the heart, mind and emotions are balanced and operating in-sync. Clients will attend an introductory workshop that covers the services provided by the "Balanced Minds" program and additional information about stress.

Psychiatric Services

Psychiatric services are offered to students who are receiving psychotherapy at CAPS. When indicated, a therapist may make a referral to the psychiatric staff for crisis, consultation and evaluation for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. Treatment may include the prescription and monitoring of medication.
