  • Off-Campus Emergency:911

Counseling and Psychological Services’ mission is to provide mental health services to students that will facilitate and enhance their personal learning, emotional well-being and academic skills development.

When scheduling an appointment, please be careful to listen to the instructions when you call. Be ready to give your name, phone number, Panther ID and email address to the receptionist. You may be directed to complete certain forms online.

After you complete your forms, your clinician will contact you on the day of your session with information about how to attend your session.

(Note: Calls from CAPS/VEP services may appear to be from a private or blocked phone number.)

We look forward to hearing from you!

What To Expect

Most of our services are now available face-to-face, but we continue to offer initial services through telehealth.  All students and employees are required to wear a mask in the SHS Building and are to continue wearing the mask as long as they are in the building and throughout the duration of their services.

What to know about a telehealth appointment.

  • Your clinician will contact you with information about your appointment after you complete your initial forms on the day of your session

What to know about an in-person appointment

  • Mask will be required in building and during appointment
  • CAPS Covid screening form is required to be completed before appointment
  • Face-to-face sessions are shortened to provide time for cleaning the therapy space for the next student

During the initial appointment, students meet with a therapist to discuss current concerns, gather information about the student’s history, and review recommendations for treatment. Recommendations may include informational resources, connection with on/off-campus peer support, participation in psycho-educational workshops, online treatment modules, group or individual counseling, or a referral to community providers.

CAPS offers limited, short-term counseling. If you need or prefer long-term or weekly counseling, then a referral to a community provider may be a better fit for you. The Counseling Center does not offer long-term, intensive, or specialized treatment generally required for substance use, personality disorders, psychotic disorders, or severe or chronic emotional difficulties.

Students generally attend counseling appointments that last 30-45 minutes and occur every 2-3 weeks.
