Our expert staff will demonstrate to you the basics of sit-on-top kayaking and lead a group excursion into the Mangrove Trails of Oleta State Park, Biscayne Bay Sandbar or the tropical beach known as Sand Spur Island.

Our expert staff will demonstrate to you the basics of sit-on-top kayaking and lead an night time excursion into the Mangrove Trails of Oleta State Park, also enjoy the open water feel of Biscayne bay under the star light.

Private Group Excursions

Biscayne Bay Wellness and Recreation offers private group excursions for FIU Clubs, Departments and the community looking for excitement out on the water. To reserve a private excursion, please scroll down to our e-form and fill in the blanks. Each participant must completely fill out a liability waiver form located at our Wellness and Recreation membership desk before the start of the tour. Please book your tour at least five days before your target event date. 

Private Group Excursion Schedule

Kayak Day on the Bay
Monday - Saturday: between the hours of 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM 

Kayak After Dark
Monday - Friday: 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Additional Details

  • Costs

    All Private Excursions fees are $400 for one two-hour excursion (20 people max per trip). A group needed additional trip time would need to purchase an additional two-hour trip. Payment can be made with personal Check, Money order, debit or credit card.  

    • FIU Departmental Fee: $200.00 (50% off)
    • FIU Student Organization Fee: $100.00 (75% off)
  • Cancellations
    All private excursion fees are non-refundable. In case of a reservation cancellation, the contact person will need to email Jonathan Torrey a day before the event. If a private excursion is canceled due to severe weather or unsafe conditions, the main contact person will be notified of the cancellation via email and the trip will be re-scheduled for a later date. Reservations are taken on a first come, first serve basis, so reserve a private excursion today!
  • Payments
    Private excursion payments can be accepted up until the day of the event. Payments must be made at the Biscayne Bay Wellness and Recreation Membership desk. No cash accepted! A final invoice will be emailed to the main contact person on the reservation form.
  • Waiver

    All participants must complete a liability waiver to participate. Participant waivers can also be signed at the Biscayne Bay Wellness and Recreation Center - BBC Membership desk before the start of the trip.

  • Policies
    • Private excursion groups must meet at the Wellness and Recreation center (WUC 160) at least 30 minutes before their trip starts to sign liability waviers and make a final payment.
    • All private kayak excursions must be booked at least one week prior to event date.
    • All kayak events should be scheduled on two hour time blocks.
    • All participants must be 16 years old or older. 
    • All kayaking events must have a minimum of six(6) people registered in order for the event to happen.
