Nature Preserve Jogging Trail

A partnership between the Office of University Sustainability, the Wellness & Recreation Center, and FIU Housing, the FIU Jogging Path is 0.6 miles long and has 6 workout stations along the path. Made from approximately 5,640 recycled tires, the ground material offers pedestrians and joggers better traction and a softer surface that is better for feet, ankles and knees.

In the center of the Jogging Path lies the FIU Nature Preserve, 14 acres of pine rockland and tropical hardwood hammocks ecosystems, South Florida's natural habitat that existed long before FIU. This outdoor classroom hosts dozens of school groups each year to learn about this endangered habitat and its species. The FIU Faculty/Staff Walking Club, the Wellness & Recreation Center's personal trainers, the FIU Run Club and student athletes are also using the FIU Jogging Path regularly.

In addition, a variety of walking/jogging paths around campus are mapped on this brochure.

Construction Update

Construction of the multi-purpose practice and recreation fields and enhanced Nature Preserve has begun in this area. The east, southeast, south, southwest, and west entrances to the Nature Preserve will remain open. Access to the jogging path will be limited in certain areas. The project is scheduled to be completed in August of 2017. Read the FIU News Story.
